Green Pass Discount Plan

Green Pass Discount Plan: Offers a special 10% discount to Hybrid vehicles getting at least 45 miles to the gallon and meeting the following emissions standards:

Green E-ZPass Tag Eligible Vehicle Criteria:

  • Vehicles which are certified to the California Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) standard and achieve a United State Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) highway fuel economy rating of 45 miles per gallon or more; or

  • Pre-model year 2005 hybrid vehicles which are certified to the California Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) standard and achieve a USEPA highway fuel economy rating of 45 miles per gallon or more.

The following is a list of currently eligible vehicles*:

  • Ford Focus BEV, model year 2012
  • *Toyota Prius C, model year 2012
  • *Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), model year 2012
  • *Chevrolet Volt, model year 2012 with E, F, G, or H in the 5th position of the VIN
  • Mitsubishi i-MiEV, model year 2012
  • Azure Dynamics Transit Connect Electric Van (aka Ford Transit Connect), model year 2012
  • Azure Dynamics Transit Connect Electric Wagon (aka Ford Transit Connect), model year 2012
  • Mercedes-Benz F Cell, model year 2011 - 2012
  • Nissan Leaf, model year 2011 - 2012
  • *Toyota Prius Hybrid, model year 2004 - 2012
  • BMW 1 Series Active E, model year 2011
  • Smart ForTwo ED (electric drive) Cabriolet, model year 2011
  • Smart ForTwo ED (electric drive) Coupe, model year 2011
  • Honda FCX Clarity, model year 2008 - 2011
  • Tesla Roadster, model year 2008 - 2011
  • Mini Cooper Mini E, model year 2008
  • *Honda Civic Hybrid, model year 2006 - 2010
  • *Honda Insight Hybrid (automatic transmission only), model year 2005 - 2006
  • *Honda Insight Hybrid, model year 2000 - 2004
  • Toyota RAV4 EV, model year 2000 - 2003
  • Chevrolet S10 Electric, model year 1997 - 1998

*(No other alternate fuel or hybrid vehicles are eligible for the program at this time)
**Note: 2007-later Honda Insights do not meet the eligibility criteria because they are not compliant with the SULEV emission requirements.

The special green tag should be mounted on the windshield of the qualified vehicle and is not eligible for use on other vehicles. To be eligible for the green discount, customers must first have an established E-ZPass account with the New York State Thruway Authority as indicated by the Thruway logo on your tag. This discounted rate will not be available to cash customers. Proof of vehicle registration is required to receive the special 10% discount off of the E-ZPass rate. The Authority began accepting requests for the green discount on April 1, 2006.
