Strategic Planning, Mission, Vision, Guiding and Operating Principles

Strategic Planning

The Thruway Authority has been committed to creating a long term strategic plan that includes our guiding principles; safety, operational excellence, customer service, infrastructure integrity, fiscal responsibility, and environmental stewardship. Through a series of collaborative meetings with all departments and divisions we created and refined both reasonable and stretch goals for each principle and the organization for the next 10-years. In total, there are 41 goals;

  • 7 safety goals focus on employee health and safety as well as our traveling public
  • 9 operational excellence goals target internal operations; hiring, onboarding, offboarding, performance, and modernization
  • 4 customer service goals focus primarily on our EZ pass operations and leaving space for future consideration to listen to the voice of the traveling public
  • 12 infrastructure integrity goals include both physical and technology infrastructure
  • 4 fiscal responsibility goals target revenue diversification and reducing unpaid and unbillable transactions
  • 5 environmental stewardship goals focus on sustainability, our use of ROW and Facilities, EO22, and increased charging capabilities consistent with the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure plan

To operate and maintain an essential transportation corridor that supports and enhances economic activity, by reliably delivering high levels of safety, convenience, and service while modernizing to meet dynamic customer and partner needs in a financially responsible manner.

    Act in an environmentally sustainable manner in operating and maintaining the Thruway.
