MEDIA ADVISORY: NOTICE OF THRUWAY AUTHORITY PUBLIC HEARINGS

The New York State Thruway Authority will hold public hearings on the proposed toll adjustments on the New York State Thruway system. Tolls remain frozen system-wide through 2023. 

On Dec. 5, 2022, the New York State Thruway Authority Board of Directors authorized the start of the public process for a toll adjustment. The toll adjustment process includes public hearings, receipt and consideration of public comments, and ultimately final consideration by the Thruway Authority Board of Directors by the end of the year. The Thruway is a user-fee supported roadway and receives no dedicated federal, state or local tax dollars.

Five public hearings are scheduled including four in-person public hearings across New York State and one virtual public hearing.

The public hearings will be held on the following dates:

    Virtual Public Hearing

Individuals attending the public hearings will be required to sign in to offer remarks. Speakers will be called up in the order that they signed up and written comments will be accepted at the meetings as well. Speakers will have five minutes each to offer their remarks related to tolls and the current proposed toll adjustment. Remarks should be directed to panel members, not the audience and specifically relate to this topic.

Virtual Public Hearing

The virtual public hearing will be held online through Cisco Webex events and streamed online at thruway.ny.gov.

Individuals may register at thruway.ny.gov to comment during the virtual public hearing. They will be required to provide their name, phone number and valid email address. A confirmation email will be sent to speakers with instructions on how to participate in the Webex hearing.

On the day of the virtual hearing, a link will be available on thruway.ny.gov for individuals to watch the hearing.

Any potential toll adjustments along the Thruway system are subject to the State Administrative Procedure Act (SAPA), the Public Authorities Law and the State Environmental Quality Review Act.

Relevant materials including the report from Stantec, the Authority’s independent traffic consultant, along with information on the toll adjustment and proposed rates, can be found on the Thruway Authority’s website.
