TRAVEL ADVISORY – ONONDAGA COUNTY: CANTON STREET AND BRICKYARD ROAD INTERSECTION TO CLOSE FROM AUGUST 8 TO AUGUST 28

Asphalt Pavement Work Part of $4.7 Million Bridge Replacement Project

Motorists Should Follow Posted Detour Signs

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that the intersection of Canton Street and Brickyard Road will close at 6 a.m. Monday, August 8, until Sunday, August 28, 6 p.m. for asphalt pavement reconstruction. The closure is part of the $4.7 million bridge replacement project in the Town of Warners to replace the Canton Street bridge (mile post 292.06) over I-90.

Motorists are advised to follow the detour and take Canton Street to Warners Road, to the Warners bridge over I-90, then E. Sorrell Hill Road to Conners Road, to Canton Street. Variable Message Signs will be activated ahead of the work zone to alert motorists of the closure and detour.

The work is weather permitting and subject to change.

The Canton Street bridge replacement project began in June and will enhance the overall safety for traffic both on the Thruway and the local road by increasing vertical clearance to meet current engineering standards, installing new guiderail, reflective line striping, and maintaining pedestrian access. The project is expected to be complete in spring 2023.

Slate Hill Constructors, Inc. of Warners, NY is the contractor for the project.

Motorists are reminded that in New York State, fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual's driver license.
