THRUWAY AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF $19.5 MILLION PAVEMENT REHABILITATION PROJECT ON I-90 EASTBOUND IN CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY

Work Included Full Depth Pavement Repairs and Additional Safety Upgrades

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced the completion of a $19.5 million pavement rehabilitation project on the New York State Thruway (I-90) eastbound in Chautauqua County. Work was performed over a two year period on a 13-mile stretch of I-90 from the Pennsylvania State line to just beyond exit 60 at milepost 483.

“With approximately 9,700 motorists traveling on this section of I-90 every day, this pavement improvement project enhances safety and reliability of the roadway for motorists,” Thruway Authority Executive Director Matthew J. Driscoll said. “The pavement improvements and safety upgrades are essential to supporting travel and economic growth on this travel corridor in Western New York.”

The project began in July 2021 and included full depth pavement rehabilitation and reconstruction of the eastbound lanes of I-90 including exit 61 (Ripley-Shortman Road) and exit 60 (Westfield-Mayville- NY Route 394) and associated ramps with each. Full-depth repairs include the removal and replacement of the most deteriorated portions of the roadway down to its subbase. The repairs improve the new roadway’s structural integrity.

Additional work included safety improvements such as reflective line striping for enhanced safety, extensive guide rail replacement, drainage improvements and signage.

Oakgrove Construction, Inc. of Elma, NY was the contractor for the project.

The project was designed to align with New York State’s Drivers First Initiative to ensure construction will have the least possible impact on motorists.
