TRAVEL ADVISORY – ORANGE COUNTY: NORTHBOUND THRUWAY EXIT 16 OFF-RAMP TO ROUTE 17 TO CLOSE OVERNIGHT WEEK OF OCT. 17

Closure Will Facilitate Concrete Slab Replacement on Ramp

Northbound Motorists Should Follow Posted Detour to Exit 15A to Access Route 17

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that the northbound Thruway (I-87) exit 16 off-ramp to westbound Route 17 in Harriman will be closed overnight next week from Monday, Oct. 17, to Thursday, Oct. 20, so concrete slabs can be safely removed and replaced on the ramp. The closures will occur from approximately midnight until 5:30 a.m.

Northbound motorists seeking to take westbound Route 17 or other roads in southern Orange County should follow the posted detour to exit 15A (Sloatsburg - Suffern - NY Routes 17 North & 59) in Rockland County. From there, motorists can directly access Route 17 and travel approximately 15 miles north to Harriman. Variable Message Signs have been activated at several locations ahead of the work zone to alert motorists of the closure and detour.

All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

The concrete slab replacement is part of $6.7 million pavement improvement project on the New York State Thruway, covering a 2.5-mile stretch between Woodbury to just north of exit 16. More than 92,000 vehicles travel this corridor on average each day. All of the work has taken place overnight to reduce impacts to motorists.

The project is expected to be completed in spring 2023.
