TRAVEL ADVISORY – ROCKLAND COUNTY: NORTHBOUND I-87 LEFT LANE NEAR EXIT 13 WILL BE CLOSED IN THE MORNINGS NEXT WEEK

Left Lane Will Reopen By 9 AM Tuesday and Wednesday; By 8 AM Thursday; and By 7 AM Friday

Motorists Should Anticipate Delays and May Wish to Seek Alternate Routes

Work is Critical to Advance Overhead Sign Structure Installation

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that rescheduled sign work will require a morning closure of the left lane on the northbound Thruway (I-87/I-287) near exit 13 (New Jersey - Palisades Interstate Parkway - Bear Mountain State Park) in Clarkstown most of next week. The northbound left lane will reopen by 9 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday; by 8 a.m. on Thursday; and by 7 a.m. on Friday. In addition, northbound traffic will be briefly stopped on Monday night and Tuesday morning to allow for the safe movement of equipment. The closures and traffic stops are needed to allow critical prep work for the installation of a sign structure over the roadway at a later date.

Two northbound lanes of traffic will remain open during the morning work periods but motorists should anticipate delays and consider alternate routes. Variable Message Signs have been activated ahead of the work zone to alert motorists of the impending closures.
Construction activities will require overnight lane closures in both directions near exit 13 throughout the week.

Here is the schedule:

  • Monday, April 11, to Tuesday, April 12: The left northbound lane will be closed from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m., and the adjacent lane will be closed from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.; the left southbound lane will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Tuesday, April 12, to Wednesday, April 13: The left northbound lane will be closed from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m., and, if necessary, the adjacent lane will be closed from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.; the left southbound lane will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Wednesday, April 13, to Thursday, April 14: The left northbound lane will be closed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., and the left southbound lane will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Thursday, April 14, to Friday, April 15: The left northbound lane will be closed from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., and the left southbound lane will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

All work is subject to change and weather permitting.

Motorists are urged to be alert and follow the posted work zone speed limits. Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
