TRAVEL ADVISORY – ROCKLAND COUNTY: NORTHBOUND I-87 LEFT LANE NEAR EXIT 13 TO CLOSE MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY MORNING

Left Lane Will Reopen By 8 AM Tuesday

Motorists Should Anticipate Delays and May Wish to Seek Alternate Routes

Work is Critical to Advance Overhead Sign Structure Installation

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that the left lane on the northbound Thruway (I-87/I-287) near exit 13 (New Jersey - Palisades Interstate Parkway - Bear Mountain State Park) in Clarkstown will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday until 8 a.m. Tuesday, weather permitting. The closure, along with other overnight closures scheduled all next week, will allow critical prep work for the installation of a sign structure over the northbound lanes at a later date.

Two northbound lanes of traffic will remain open Tuesday morning but motorists should anticipate delays and consider alternate routes.

Variable Message Signs have been activated ahead of the work zone to alert motorists of the closures.

Construction activities throughout the week will require the overnight closure of lanes in both directions near exit 13. All work is subject to change.

Here is the overnight lane closure schedule:

  • Monday, April 4, to Wednesday, April 6: One southbound lane closed from 7 p.m.; one northbound lane closed at 8 p.m., followed by a second lane at 10 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 7: One southbound lane closed from 8 p.m.; one northbound lane closed at 8 p.m., followed by a second lane at 11 p.m.
  • Friday, April 8: One southbound lane closed from 8 p.m.; one northbound lane closed at 10 p.m., followed by a second lane at 11:59 p.m.

Lanes in both directions will reopen no later than 6 a.m. the following day, except for Tuesday morning, when the left lane is scheduled to reopen by 8 a.m.

Motorists are urged to be alert and follow the posted work zone speed limits. Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
