All Westbound Traffic Traveling on Berkshire Spur (I-90) Will Be Diverted Off the Thruway at Exit B1 (Albany - Hudson – Rensselaer)

Scheduled Closure to Accommodate Bridge Deck Repair
s and Prepare for Upcoming Traffic Shift During Winter Months

Eastbound Lanes Will Remain Open to Traffic Entering the Berkshire Spur from I-87 at Exit 21A

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced the temporary closure of the westbound Castleton-On-Hudson Bridge beginning on Monday, Nov. 29 at 5 a.m. through 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3. The scheduled temporary closure will allow for necessary bridge deck repairs and prepare for an upcoming traffic shift during the winter months. The Castleton-On-Hudson Bridge, which connects Albany and Rensselaer counties over the Hudson River, is currently undergoing a $47.6 million bridge deck replacement and rehabilitation project.

Beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, all westbound traffic will be diverted off the Berkshire Spur at exit B1 (I-90 - Albany - Hudson – Rensselaer). Motorists will be directed to I-90 west and can reconnect to the Thruway at exit 23 (Albany - I-787) or exit 24 (Albany - Montreal - I-90 - I-87).

All traffic accessing the Berkshire Spur at exit B1 will be limited to eastbound travel only.

Eastbound lanes will remain open to traffic entering the Berkshire Spur from exit 21A. Motorists should remain alert and exercise caution, as the bridge is an active construction zone with a 45MPH posted speed limit.

Additionally, tandem vehicles must break up prior to entering New York State from the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The scheduled closure is weather dependent and subject to change.

Variable Message Signs (VMS) are illuminated to alert motorists of the closure and social media will be used to alert motorists of any changes.

The Thruway Authority encourages all drivers to download the free Thruway mobile app which includes real-time, Thruway-specific traffic and traffic cameras, Thruway Service Area locator, toll calculator, roadside assistance and more.

Motorists can also sign up for TRANSAlert emails regarding Thruway traffic conditions.
