Electric Vehicles
The Thruway Authority is creating an expansive network of electric vehicle charging stations, which is key to increasing the use of zero-emission electric vehicles. Because of the Thruway’s ongoing commitment to vehicle electrification, there are more than 120 EV charging stations currently in operation at Thruway commuter lots, service areas, and welcome centers.
As part of the Service Area Redesign and Redevelopment Project, Applegreen Electric has installed four to twelve high-speed EV chargers at every service area.

Types of Charging Stations
Level 2 and Level 3 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are available along the New York State Thruway.
- Level 2 stations are free to use and located at nine Commuter Park and Ride Lots off the Thruway’s mainline system. It takes approximately 4 hours to fully charge.
Level 3* stations are capable of supplying 50-100kw of power and enable fast-charge-capable EVs to be powered in approximately 30 minutes.
Applegreen Electric universal fast charging stations supply up to 350kW of power. These units support all electric vehicles, including Tesla.
