The New York State Thruway Authority today announced E-ZPass On-the-Go Tags are now available at 94 New York Speedway convenience store locations in Upstate New York. With the addition of Speedway, E-ZPass Tags can be picked up at more than 900 retail locations statewide.

“E-ZPass is the most convenient, cost-effective way to travel New York and beyond and as the Thruway Authority transitions to cashless tolling system-wide by the end of 2020, we are ensuring E-ZPass Tags are easily accessible at convenient locations,” Thruway Authority Executive Director Matthew J. Driscoll said. “With the addition of Speedway convenience stores, customers will now be able to pick up an E-ZPass Tag along with their morning coffee, filling up their gas tank, or other treat and be on their way to saving more time and money.”

The E-ZPass On-The-Go program allows motorists to open a Thruway E-ZPass account quickly and easily by purchasing a tag at a participating retail store, instead of filling out an application and waiting for a tag to arrive in the mail. E-ZPass On-The-Go tags are available as a prepackaged tag for $25. Customers can register the tag online or by calling 1-800-697-1554. The $25 is credited to the customer’s account and the tag becomes active in 24 hours.

In 2018, E-ZPass On-the-Go retailers across the state sold 197,425 tags, an increase of more than 50 percent, breaking the previous record set in 2017 of 131,175 Tags. More than 43,000 E-ZPass Tags were also sold in cash toll lanes on the NYS Thruway’s ticketed system.

E-ZPass tags are sold at more than 800 locations across that state including Thruway Service Areas, select cash toll lanes, local grocery and convenience stores and municipal locations, New York State DMVs, and online. To find a retailer near you, go to thruway.ny.gov/getezpass.

In his 2018 State of the State address, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced cashless tolling will be implemented on the entire Thruway system by the end of 2020. Cashless tolling is already operational at the Thruway's fixed-price barriers in the lower Hudson Valley region and the Grand Island Bridges in Western New York.
