TRAVELER ADVISORY: DAILY TRAFFIC STOPS EXPECTED ON NEW ENGLAND THRUWAY IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, JAN. 16 FOR ROCK REMEDIATION

Rock Remediation is a Component of “Last Mile” Infrastructure Improvement Project on I-95

Traffic Stops Scheduled Monday-Thursday on I-287 Eastbound and I-95 in Both Directions

State Police to Conduct Traffic Stops for Approximately 20 Minutes During the Next Several Months

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced a rock remediation safety project on the New England Thruway (I-95) in Westchester County will require brief traffic stops beginning Wednesday, Jan. 16. The rock remediation is part of the $135 million “Last Mile” infrastructure improvement project which focuses on the one-mile stretch from exit 22 (Port Chester- Rye- Midland Avenue) to the Connecticut state line.

During the remediation, there will be temporary traffic stops on I-95 for northbound and southbound traffic beginning Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the vicinity of the Grace Church Street Bridge (mile marker 14.5). The brief stoppages are scheduled to take place Monday through Thursday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on I-95, as well as the I-287 ramp to I-95 northbound. New York State Police will perform the stops to allow construction work to be safely performed, with each day consisting of one or more traffic stoppages lasting approximately 20 minutes. The work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Operations will occur in additional areas along the one mile stretch of I-95 as work continues over the next several months.

Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be illuminated to advise motorists of stoppages. Motorists are urged to be alert and follow the posted work zone speed limits.

Motorists can find information on the project, including traffic information and progress updates on the Thruway Authority’s dedicated “Last Mile” webpage.
