THRUWAY AUTHORITY LAUNCHES REDESIGNED WEBSITE WITH NEW LOOK AND ENHANCED FEATURES
For Immediate Release: 2/23/2026
Site Features Streamlined Navigation, Easier Access and Modern Aesthetics
Address Remains the Same: thruway.ny.gov
The New York State Thruway Authority today announced the official launch of its newly redesigned website, offering an elevated experience and easier access to information for motorists, commercial drivers, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders. The fully redesigned website makes it easier for users to plan a trip on the 570-mile Thruway system, pay their tolls, learn about real-time travel conditions, locate service areas, or report an issue, representing just some of the many other points of information users can access.
“The new Thruway website with its modern look and feel will make it even easier for users to find the information they need and want,” Thruway Authority Executive Director Frank G. Hoare, Esq., said. “We upgraded to the latest technology to give our customers a seamless digital experience while paying special attention to functionality, accessibility and aesthetics.”
The Thruway’s in-house web team used data to prioritize what was most important to website visitors. As a result, a toll calculator is prominently displayed at the top of the home page. Just below are links to E-ZPass, Tolls By Mail, trip planning and a real-time interactive travelers’ map, and when needed, important travel advisories. A redesigned drop-down navigation menu provides easier access to the Authority’s most important information.
Featuring video and updated photography, the website is designed for travelers, those who do business with the Thruway and anyone seeking general information about the Authority, its $2.8 billion five-year Capital Plan, and various services available to commercial drivers.
Visitors can use the easy-to-navigate interface to:
- Access live traffic cameras
- Sign up and save money with E-ZPass
- Find service areas and EV chargers
- Track capital projects
- Apply for permits
- Connect to the Thruway’s social media platforms
Accessibility remains a key focus of the new website, with features such as translation services and text-only viewing options, along with a mobile friendly design that supports users of all abilities across all devices.
The Thruway website was last redesigned in 2016. The new website was rolled out with a soft launch on Monday, Feb. 9.

About the Thruway System
For more than 71 years, the Thruway System has been essential for commerce and travel in the Northeast. About one-third of all vehicles using the Thruway are from out of state. This 570-mile superhighway, with 819 bridges, 118 interchanges and 27 Service Areas connects New York’s principal cities, rural areas and tourist destinations.
Year after year, the Thruway system is recognized as one of the safest highways in the nation. In 2024, the Thruway-wide fatality rate was 0.22 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, one of the lowest recorded rates on the Thruway system since fatality rates have been documented in 1954. The figure is significantly lower than the nationwide traffic fatality rate for 2024 of 1.20 and the latest New York State traffic fatality rate from 2023 of 0.93.
Built in the early 1950s, the Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway is one of the oldest components of the National Interstate Highway System and one of the longest toll roads in the nation. It sets the standard for modern highway geometric design with safe roadway characteristics including smooth curves, wide medians and unobstructed driver sight distance.
