Statement from Thruway Authority Executive Director Frank G. Hoare, Esq.
“Today marks the final board meeting for our long-time Board Member and friend Joanne ‘Joanie’ Mahoney, whose leadership, vision and unwavering commitment to public service have helped shape the Thruway Authority as we know it today. For more than a decade, Joanie has been an integral partner in advancing some of the most transformative initiatives in our history, much of that time serving as Board Chair.
Her leadership was critical to the successful delivery of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, a project that redefined safety and connectivity between Rockland and Westchester counties and strengthened the region’s economic future. She also played a central role in implementing systemwide cashless tolling, which has now processed more than two billion transactions while reducing congestion and improving air quality for our communities.
Joanie’s impact extends across every corner of the system, from overseeing the modernization of all 27 Thruway service areas to supporting billions of dollars in capital investments that have enhanced safety, reliability and customer experience. Through it all, she helped us keep the Thruway financially sound and tolls as low as possible for the millions motorists who rely on us every day.
True to the ideal of leaving things better than you found them, Joanie has built a lasting legacy at the Thruway Authority. Her collaborative spirit, thoughtful leadership and deep sense of public service have positioned this organization for continued success well into the future.
On behalf of the entire Thruway Authority, we thank Joanie for her extraordinary dedication, her humility and her many contributions. We are deeply grateful for her service and wish her all the best in her next chapter.”
