WOODBURY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT DRAFT DESIGN APPROVAL DOCUMENT/ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT AVAILABLE TO PUBLIC

The New York State Thruway Authority has announced that the Woodbury Mobility Improvement Project Draft Design Approval Document/Environmental Assessment (DAD/EA) is now available to the public on the Authority’s website and in a number of locations in the Lower Hudson Valley, New York.

“The Woodbury Toll Barrier is expected to be the first location that will provide all vehicles, both commercial and passenger, with the convenience of traveling at highway speeds as they electronically pay tolls, all while safely separated from other cash-paying lanes,” said Thruway Authority Executive Director Michael R. Fleischer. “The Authority is committed to providing Highway Speed E-ZPass for its customers and plans to continue implementing Higher and Highway Speed E-ZPass system wide.”

This project is intended to improve operations at the existing Woodbury Toll Barrier, located at milepost 45 by introducing the use of Highway Speed E-ZPass and reconstructing the approaches along the New York State Thruway (I-87). The project is located in the Town of Woodbury and the Village of Harriman in Orange County, New York. The approximate project limits are between Thruway milepost 43.5 and 46.4.

The contract for the first phase of the Woodbury Mobility Improvement Project is scheduled to be let in November of 2006 with completion planned for early winter 2007. The Highway Speed E-ZPass is scheduled to be operational by the Fall of 2009. For more information regarding this project please visit the project web page at www.nysthruway.gov/projectsandstudies/projects/woodbury/index.html.

The DAD/EA report on the Woodbury Mobility Improvement Project is available at www.nysthruway.gov by selecting ‘Projects and Studies’, then ‘Woodbury Mobility Improvement Project’ and then ‘Project DAD/EA’. It will also be available for reviewing and copying through the following repository sites: Woodbury Town Clerk’s Office, 511 Route 32, Highland Mills, NY; Woodbury Public Library, 23 Smith Clove Road, Central Valley, NY; Tuxedo Park Library, 227 Route 17, Tuxedo Park NY; and Monroe Free Library, 44 Millpond Parkway, Monroe, NY.

On May 23, 2006, the Authority held an informal public Open House at the Central Valley Elementary School.
