Thruway Authority to Continue Tappan Zee Bridge Deck Replacement Project

The New York State Thruway Authority announced that deck replacement work on the Tappan Zee Bridge will continue during the week of January 4, 2010.

The work is to be done in sequential order and the direction of the work may be adjusted due traffic and weather conditions.  All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.

Lane closures during next week’s operations:

Monday, January 4 through Wednesday, January 6

Work will begin at 8 p.m. resulting in the closure of two right northbound lanes, with a third right northbound lane closing at 11 p.m., until 6 a.m. from milepost 13.8 to the west abutment on the Tappan Zee Bridge.  At least one lane northbound and two lanes southbound will be open to traffic from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m.

The lane closures are needed to complete the installation of new steel barrier and to clean and remove the shield at the main span and west deck truss. All lanes are expected to be open by 6 a.m. the following day.

During Monday through Wednesday night’s operations, due to the northbound lane closures, the entrance ramp from Broadway (southbound) in Tarrytown will also be closed from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. All traffic will be detoured to the entrance ramp from Route 119.

Two southbound left lanes will be closed from Interchange 10 to the west abutment from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.
