The New York State Thruway Authority announced deck replacement work on the Tappan Zee Bridge will continue the week of July 6, 2009.

On Monday, July 6 through Thursday, July 9, the installation of new modular joints in the main span and the west deck truss will continue in the center lanes.

On the evenings of Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, the Authority’s contractor will be removing one of the asphalt transition ramps on the west deck truss, where the center portion of the new bridge joint is completed.

All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.

Updates will be issued announcing any change in schedule. Lane closures during this operation:

Work will begin at 8 p.m. resulting in the closure of two left southbound lanes, with an additional left southbound lane closing at 10 p.m., until 6 a.m. from Interchange 10 to the east deck truss on the Tappan Zee Bridge.

These lane closures are for the installation of new deck joints in the center lanes main span and west deck truss. All lanes are expected to be open by 6 a.m. the following day.

During Monday through Thursday nights’ operations, two left lanes in the northbound direction from Interchange 8 to milepost 13 will also be closed from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. as part of this work.

Due to the northbound lane closures, the entrance ramp from Broadway (southbound) in Tarrytown will also be closed from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. All traffic will be detoured to the entrance ramp from Route 119.

Friday, July 10

Two southbound left lanes will be closed from Interchange 10 to the west abutment from 9 p.m. until 8 a.m.

These lane closures are for the placement of a steel plate system with asphalt ramps for the installation of new deck joints on the northbound west deck truss. In addition, the contractor will be removing a steel plate system for an already completed joint on the west deck truss.  All lanes are expected to be open by 8 a.m. the following day.
