Thruway Authority Announces Revised Schedule for Tappan Zee Bridge Deck Replacement Project
The New York State Thruway Authority has revised work plans for the evenings of Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, 2009.
Due to weather conditions and forecasts, on the evenings of Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, the Authority’s contractor will no longer be installing transition ramps of approximately 50 feet of asphalt leading up to steel plates on two modular joints – one located at the midpoint on the main span and one on the west deck truss of the Tappan Zee Bridge.
All work is weather-dependent and subject to change. Updates will be issued announcing any change in schedule. Lane closures during this operation:
Friday, April 17
- Work will begin at 10 p.m. resulting in the closure of two left northbound lanes, to three northbound lanes at midnight until 8 a.m. from Interchange 10 to the east deck truss on the Tappan Zee Bridge.
Due to the northbound lane closures, the entrance ramp from Broadway (southbound) in Tarrytown will also be closed from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. All traffic will be detoured to the entrance ramp from Route 119.
Saturday, April 18
- No work scheduled.
For the safety of the public and construction workers, motorists are urged to proceed with caution and obey posted work-zone speed limits. Work will proceed weather-permitting, and schedule updates will be announced as needed.
Traffic updates will be broadcast to motorists via Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) along the highway and by Highway Advisory Radio, 530 AM in the Tappan Zee Bridge corridor, as well as 1610 AM in the Newburgh area.
Weather permitting, the deck replacement project is slated for completion by late August 2009.
