THRUWAY AUTHORITY TO LAUNCH DECK REPLACEMENT PROJECT: MEDIA BRIEFING SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 25 and 26, 2007
The New York State Thruway Authority will host a media briefing at 4:30 p.m. on April 25, 2007 at the Tarrytown Village Hall, and at 4:30 p.m. on April 26, 2007 at the Palisades Mall Raso Community Room.
This Spring, the New York State Thruway Authority will begin a project to replace 40 percent of the deck of the Tappan Zee Bridge to improve service and ensure the safety of its customers. Work is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2008.
This important project is part of an ongoing strategic response to maintenance issues related to an overused bridge. In addition to improving service and ensuring the safety of motorists, the project will also improve mobility and reliability by reducing unscheduled repair-related traffic delays on the bridge.
The Thruway Authority has implemented a number of measures to reduce the impact on motorists and to preserve traffic flow. Much of the work will be completed during overnight shifts, and day work will be limited to single-lane closures. The Authority will also implement construction innovations to shorten the project duration, including the manufacture of redecking materials off-site with delivery just in time for installation.
In addition to the media briefing, the Authority has scheduled a series of public information meetings to explain the redecking project process and to describe the communication plan designed to minimize impacts on traffic flow and to keep the public updated throughout the project.
Meetings will be held in Rockland and Westchester counties, where the public will have the opportunity to meet project experts, view displays of the process and schedule and ask questions about the project.
