Tappan Zee Bridge Deck Replacement Project
Large sections of the 50 year old bridge deck were cut apart and removed at night.
After removal, the existing bridge deck, complete with old support beams, was loaded on trucks to be hauled to a designated demolition site.
Hauling large portions of existing material off- site minimized delays and reduced environmental concerns.
Once the existing bridge deck was removed “prep work” began to install the new panel.
The new deck panels, weighing 70,000 pounds, were carefully lowered into position.
Workers helped to guide the deck panels into proper position.
The crane used to lift the deck panels was on a barge floating in the water below the bridge.
Panel Installation is complete!
