TRAVEL ADVISORY: BRIEF TRAFFIC STOPPAGES SCHEDULED ON NYS THRUWAY IN CENTRAL NEW YORK OVERNIGHT MARCH 12 INTO MARCH 13
Stoppages Scheduled Between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for Eastbound and Westbound Traffic on I-90 Between Exit 34 (Canastota – Rte. 13) and Exit 36 (Syracuse – I-81), Weather Permitting
Crews Will Be Installing the First Two of 36 Mainline Gantries for the Thruway’s Conversion to Cashless Tolling System-wide by the End of 2020
The New York State Thruway Authority today announced brief traffic stoppages are scheduled on the NYS Thruway (I-90) between exit 34 (Canastota – Rte. 13) and exit 36 (Syracuse – I-81) during the overnight hours Thurs. Mar. 12 into Fri., March 13, weather permitting. There will be several stoppages in each direction which are expected to last no longer than 20 minutes each. Drivers should anticipate delays and seek alternate routes where possible. The stoppages are planned to occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
During this scheduled work, crews from Cashless Tolling Constructors, LLC will be installing one gantry westbound and one gantry eastbound over the Thruway mainline (I-90) at milepost 277.5 in the Town of Manlius.
Currently in the first phase of construction of the cashless tolling conversion, crews are actively working across the state to prepare sites to install gantries and cashless tolling equipment along the highway and designated ramps. As part of the Design-Build project requirements, the switchover to cashless tolling will take place simultaneously system-wide by the end of 2020.
Motorists can find more information on the Thruway’s conversion to cashless tolling on a new webpage dedicated to the project and its developments. One of the many features on the webpage is the Interactive Map where drivers can view where the gantries are scheduled to be installed along the system and the progress made at each location.
Gantries will be located on the Thruway mainline and interchange ramps, which users can locate on the Interactive Map. The webpage also features a FAQ section, project gallery and traffic information.
