UPDATED TRAVELER ADVISORY: THRUWAY AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES RAMP CLOSURE AND DETOUR
AS PART OF “LAST MILE” INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY

Ramp from Midland Ave. to I-95 Northbound Closed to All Traffic for Duration of Project

Emergency Vehicle Access Road Available for Emergency Responders

Detour Posted for Motorists

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced a ramp closure and detour for work associated with the $135 million infrastructure project known as the “Last Mile” on the New England Thruway (I-95). The project focuses on the one-mile stretch from exit 22 (Port Chester- Rye- Midland Avenue) to the Connecticut state line.

Beginning Wednesday, May 15, the ramp from Midland Avenue to I-95 northbound in Rye will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the project, which is anticipated to be completed in 2021. A temporary emergency access road was created for emergency responders to use while the ramp is closed.

The ramp is being realigned to connect directly to I-95 northbound. Currently, the ramp converges with I-287 with a stop sign. After stopping, traffic continues down the on-ramp to merge with I-95 northbound. The new alignment removes the stop sign and will allow traffic to travel from Midland Avenue onto the ramp and merge directly with I-95 northbound.

During the ramp closure, a detour will be posted for motorists seeking to access I-95 northbound:

  • Travel north on Midland Avenue
  • Take a right on the ramp for I-287 westbound
  • Continue on I-287 westbound and exit at exit 9 (Kenilworth Road)
  • Get back onto I-287 eastbound and continue on to I-95 northbound

Detour information will be displayed on signage and broadcast on Variable Message Signs (VMS) as well as Highway Advisory Radio (HAR). Traffic information is also available on the Thruway Authority’s website, and the dedicated “Last Mile” webpage. Motorists are urged to be alert and follow the posted work zone speed limits.

The “Last Mile” project includes several ramp upgrades and reconfigurations, reconstruction of the I-95 mainline, replacement of two bridges, rehabilitation of four bridges, and the installation of noise walls and visual barriers.

Motorists are encouraged to download the Thruway’s mobile app which is available to download for free on iPhone and Android devices.

Travelers can also sign up for TRANSalert e-mails, which provide the latest traffic conditions along the Thruway.

Traffic information is also available on the Thruway’s interactive Traveler Map.
