TRAVELER ADVISORY: THRUWAY AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC SHIFT AND LANE CLOSURE ON
THRUWAY SOUTHBOUND IN ROCKLAND COUNTY FOR BRIDGE REHABILITATION PROJECT
Traffic Shift and Lane Closure Planned for Southbound Section of I-87 Starting Tuesday, Nov. 27
Work on State Route 202 Bridge Expected to be Complete in Mid-December
The New York State Thruway Authority today announced a traffic shift and lane closure is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Nov. 27 on the Thruway (I-87) in Rockland County for a bridge rehabilitation project on State Route 202. The rehabilitation is a component of a $19 million improvement project on the Thruway between exit 15 (New Jersey - I-287 - NJ Route 17 South) and exit 14A (New Jersey – Garden State Parkway) which began in 2017.
Beginning Tuesday night, there will be a traffic shift and lane closure on the Thruway southbound just prior to exit 15 (New Jersey - I-287 - NJ Route 17 South) to exit 14B (Airmont - Montebello - Airmont Road), which is expected to be in place for several weeks, weather permitting. Motorists should be prepared for delays especially during peak travel times, and may wish to seek alternate routes. Motorists are urged to slow down, remain alert and obey the posted work zone speed limits.
Work is being performed by Kubricky Construction of Wilton, NY and is expected to be complete by mid-December. It is weather dependent and subject to change.
Variable Messages Signs (VMS) are illuminated to advise motorists of the traffic changes and possible delays, which motorists entering the Thruway from New Jersey from Route 17 and I-287 may also experience.
