THRUWAY AUTHORITY TOLL MANAGER THANKED
FOR SAVING SENIOR IN DISTRESS
Toll Plaza Manager Mark Taylor finds confused senior in toll lane, leads him to safety
New York State Thruway Authority Toll Plaza Manager Mark Taylor has been presented with a letter of commendation from Executive Director Thomas J. Madison for assisting a senior who found himself lost, confused, exhausted and far from home.
"Mark has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to safety and customer service," said Thruway Authority Executive Director Thomas J. Madison. "On behalf of everyone at the Thruway and Canal Corporation, I want to thank Mark for his efforts to protect our customers and for serving as role model for all our valued employees."
On May 24, 97 year old John Ferreri of Mamaroneck, NY, found himself confused and traveling northbound on the Taconic State Parkway. After reaching the entrance to the Thruway, Mr. Ferreri attempted to signal for help by exiting his vehicle and walking through the active toll plaza lanes.
Mr. Taylor, nearing the end of a long shift, immediately jumped into action and led Mr. Ferreri to the safety of the Toll Plaza office. He then made contact with Mr. Ferreri's family, moved Mr. Ferreri's vehicle into the employee parking lot, and transported Mr. Ferreri to the Selkirk Toll Plaza where he could be reunited with his family.
"Mark Taylor is a hero, pure and simple," said Mr. Ferreri's son, John.
Mark Taylor is a 29 year veteran of the New York State Thruway Authority. Throughout his tenure, he has always been considered one of the highest regarded Thruway employees in the Capital Region.
