WEEKEND CLOSURE FOR SOUTHBOUND SOUTH GRAND ISLAND BRIDGE
Work Begins 11 p.m. Friday, September 6, Will Last Until 9 a.m. Sunday, September 8
A weekend closure of the southbound South Grand Island Bridge (I-190) has been scheduled for Friday, September 6 at 11p.m. and will last through 9 a.m. Sunday, September 8 for construction work, the New York State Thruway Authority announced.
Motorists traveling southbound on I-190 will be diverted to a single lane on the northbound South Grand Island Bridge while contractors complete a polyester concrete overlay on the bridge deck.
In accordance with Governor Cuomo’s Driver’s First Initiative, which prioritizes the convenience of motorists and ensures that disruptions are as minimal as possible, this weekend closure allows the contractor to fill bridge joints in one continuous process. This method limits the number of additional lane closures needed, as well as providing a smoother riding surface for motorists once work is complete.
All work is weather dependent.
The Thruway Authority thanks motorists for their patience and understanding during this special event.
