NEW ENGLAND THRUWAY (I-95) DELAYS EXPECTED AS
HUTCHINSON RIVER PARKWAY CONSTRUCTION BEGINS
Motorists are advised to avoid area if possible
Significant traffic delays are expected on the New England Thruway (I-95) between exits 9 and 14 from Tuesday, August 6, through Saturday, August 10, due to the reconstruction of the Hutchinson River Parkway Bridge over U.S. Route 1 in Pelham Manor, the Thruway Authority announced today.
U.S. Route 1 will be closed in the area and traffic will be diverted onto I-95 New England Thruway causing an increase in traffic volume. Motorists in the Bronx and Westchester County are being advised to avoid the area whenever possible.
The Hutchinson River Parkway will remain open throughout the project. Parkway traffic will be detoured around the bridge using the on/off ramps at the exit for Route 1, which have been modified to allow traffic through. This new configuration is expected to slow traffic flow. The closed section of Route 1 under the bridge will be the construction staging area.
As part of Governor Cuomo’s Drivers First initiative, the Thruway and New York State Department of Transportation will continue to closely coordinate operations in order to minimize the impact on motorists.
The new configuration will be in place at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6, until Saturday, August 10.
