Tags Available in Town Clerk’s Office

The New York State Thruway announced today that the Town of Grand Island is selling prepaid E-ZPass On-The-Go tags as a way of increasing convenience for Thruway travelers.

“We are excited to expand the E-ZPass On-the-Go program to towns across New York State,” said Thruway Authority Executive Director Thomas J. Madison, Jr. “Our goal is to ensure that Thruway customers can obtain E-ZPass tags at as many convenient locations as possible to save them time and money.”

E-ZPass On-the-Go allows qualified businesses and municipal offices to sell pre-paid E-ZPass tags. The tags have a $25 value and are active upon purchase. The first $15 is immediately available for toll usage, while the remaining $10 becomes available once the tag is registered. These tags are currently available in grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations and other municipal offices, among other locations.

“E-ZPass offers a savings for all Thruway travelers and a significant discount for our residents and commuters,” said Grand Island Town Clerk Patricia Frentzel. “We are so pleased to be able to make these tags more accessible for area residents.”

Commuters can receive a 72-cent discount on the $1.00 cash rate on the Grand Island bridges with the Thruway E-ZPass Commuter Plan and residents can receive a 91-cent discount with the Thruway Grand Island Resident Plan. Information on how to apply for these additional discounts is also available in the Clerk’s office.

Travelers can purchase tags for $25 at the Town Clerk’s office located at 2255 Baseline Road in Grand Island. Tags can be used immediately, but must be registered, either on line or by phone, within 48 hours of first use.

E-ZPass provides a savings of five percent on all Thruway tolls and is accepted in 15 states: Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and West Virginia.
