THRUWAY AUTHORITY REMINDS DRIVERS TO SHARE THE ROAD
WITH AMERICADE ATTENDEES
Thousands of Motorcyclists Headed to Lake George for Annual Gathering
The New York State Thruway Authority is advising motorists to exercise additional caution this weekend as thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts will ride into Lake George for the 31st annual Americade motorcycle rally.
“Year after year, the Thruway has ranked among the safest superhighways in the nation, in large part because of the ongoing efforts of our staff to ensure the safety of all motorists,” said Thruway Executive Director Thomas J. Madison. “With Americade right around the corner, we will be utilizing the Thruway’s variable message boards to promote motorcyclist awareness and the need for all travelers to share the road.”
Americade, slated for June 1 through June 8, is one of the world’s largest motorcycle rallies and attracts some 50,000 participants. A majority of riders and spectators use the I-87 corridor, and also tour the local roads in the Adirondacks, making it essential that all types of motorists remember to share the road.
As a safety reminder, the Thruway Authority will be posting messages on electronic message signs system-wide.
