WHY:  “Operation Spring Brake” is a five-day annual safety enforcement campaign designed to alert motorists to construction zones and crack down on speeders on the highway. The effort will take place Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 11, 2012. New York State Police Troop T issued 1,087 speeding tickets during the 2011 “Operation Spring Brake” campaign and a total of 2, 218 tickets to Thruway motorists violating the speed limits. Drivers are encouraged to be alert along the Thruway, as vehicle versus deer accidents can cause serious injury.
