Weekend Closure on I-190 Scheduled April 20
Traffic Detour Set for Northbound Motorists
BUFFALO – The second of three consecutive weekend road closures on I-190 is scheduled from 7 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2012, through 6 a.m., Monday April 23, 2012, the New York State Thruway Authority announced today.
All northbound traffic will be detoured off the Niagara Expressway (I-190) at Exit 14 (Vulcan Street). Motorists looking to return to northbound I-190 should follow posted detour signs and re-enter I-190 beyond the work zone at River Road. Motorists seeking
eastbound I-290 should follow the posted detour and use Grand Island Boulevard on-ramp to I-290.
Tandem trucks will not be allowed northbound beyond Exit 9 (Peace Bridge).
This construction project includes rehabilitating existing pavement on both the northbound and southbound sections of I-190. In addition to road repairs, the contractor will replace overhead signage, complete shoulder and ramp repair work, and clean and seal pavement joints.
The last weekend closure, weather permitting, is scheduled for:
- Friday, April 27, through Monday, April 30, southbound from Sheridan Drive (Exit 15) to Ontario Street (Exit 14).
Variable Message Signs and Highway Advisory Radio (1610 AM) will be activated to notify motorists of traffic updates.
