Work Continues on New Rochelle Bridge
North Avenue Project Resumes Feb. 23
Construction to relocate utility lines on the North Avenue Bridge in New Rochelle is scheduled to begin February 23, the New York State Thruway Authority announced.
Through the use of lane shifts, closures and traffic detours in various stages, the Thruway Authority is working with the City of New Rochelle to minimize the disruption of traffic flow in the vicinity of the bridge that spans the New England Thruway (I-95).
This phase of the project will relocate electric, cable, telephone, water, fiber optic, and natural gas lines from the existing North Avenue Bridge to a parallel span that was constructed in 2010. The work on the utility lines is scheduled to be completed by May 2013.
The final phase of the project, the demolition and replacement of the North Avenue Bridge, is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2015.
The contract for the utility relocation was awarded to Perfetto Contracting Company Inc, Brooklyn, whose bid of $2.4 million was the lowest of six bids submitted. For further information, visit the City of New Rochelle website at www.newrochelleny.com/northaveconstruction.
