Thruway Authority Announces Interchange 28 Bridge Replacement Project
The New York State Thruway Authority has announced that a bridge replacement project on the bridge at Interchange 28 (Fultonville, Fonda, Route 30A) began today, Tuesday, March 9, 2010. The Interchange 28 bridge is located along I-90 at milepost 182 and carries the eastbound entrance and exit ramps over the Thruway.
In the first phase of this project, temporary traffic signals on the eastbound entrance and exit ramp will regulate alternating one-way traffic on the bridge. The westbound ramps will not be affected. Once the traffic signals are in place, work will begin to remove half of the existing bridge structure and build the first half of the new bridge.
The second phase of this project, scheduled to begin in July, will involve shifting the alternating one-way traffic to the new bridge, removing the second half of the old bridge structure and building the second half of the new bridge.
Throughout the construction, motorists traveling on the Thruway Mainline will encounter periodic lane closures in both the east and westbound lanes near milepost 182. Brief traffic stoppages will also be required for the removal and installation of steel girders.
The $3.5 million project is being completed by Bette & Cring of Latham, New York, and is scheduled to be completed by November 2010.
The Authority appreciates motorists’ patience while this essential project moves forward.
